Your eyes are often the first thing people notice about you. In a sense they are your “business card” and are an important aspect of your overall appearance.
As you age, your skin gradually loses its elasticity and the tone and shape of your eyelids can loosen and sag. Excess folds of skin on the upper eyelids can make you appear old and tired and can even obstruct your vision. Excess skin on the lower lids can form unsightly wrinkles, bags and bulges. Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty (pronounced “blef-a-ro-plasty”) is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and bulging fat from the upper and/or lower lids and can give your eyes a younger, firmer look. If the sagging upper eyelid skin obstructs peripheral vision, blepharoplasty can eliminate the obstruction and expand the field of view. Depending on the individual, the procedure is performed either in the office or in an operating room. The unwanted skin and fat are removed thru a fine incision which is closed with tiny sutures. For upper lids, the incision is hidden in your natural eyelid crease. The lower incision may be hidden either inside your lid or beneath your lashes. Both upper and lower blepharoplasty can give you a well-rested, relaxed, and more youthful appearance. As with all facial plastic surgery, good health and realistic expectations are prerequisites.
